What is going on with my computers?

I've been having some issues with my computers lately. This all happened about 2 days ago.

The only issues I've been having are my computers are running VERY slow. This is a random new problem.

I will open a program and it will take around 5 minutes to open it. The computer can take around 20-30 seconds to respond to commands once the program is open.

This started on my desktop and now I notice it with my laptop too which is very odd. I de-fragmented and cleaned the hard drive on my desktop, its still painfully slow.

The fact that it's on both the computers hints at a virus but I haven't shared any files or USB drives in about a month between the two computers and my anti-virus software (Kaspersky) has not notified me that I have a virus on the computers.

My desktop is 7 years old so it's pretty old for a computer. It's been great up until the point.

My HP laptop is a piece of crap so I'm not too shocked it's acting this way, the desktop I would like to fix but I'm not sure what's wrong with it.

Can anyone help me out?

LIFE IS GOING ON CONNOR, LIFE IS WHAT'S GOING ON.
Was there something that you did on both your desktop and laptop. IE: Did you visit a malicious website, or download any programs that seem harmful?

On Kaspersky, do a full system scan. What is going on with my computers?
It's been seven years. It had a good run but it's time to let it go and buy another, or just upgrade the parts.
Your system is too old, if you go for the hardware up-gradation for example: RAM, it would be costly because old systems have old hardware which is pretty much expensive as compare to the new hardware. It is the rule of the technology that it becomes more advance and cheap day by day. If you want to use current system that you have than go for some software applications to manage your computer. Like one of the most reliable and powerful for these type of old system is Reginout. What is going on with my computers?
To determine if your system is in fact running slow because of problems in your registry, you will need to run a self diagnostic program such as regcure

go http://tpdownload.net/WhyIsMyComputerSlow.htm This easy to use program will perform a deep scan on your computer and will report back on any issues or problems it finds for you at no charge - which means you can figure out what is wrong without having to buy anything in advance or pay a technician to essentially perform the same function.
