Hard disk not detected on boot?

So i start up and i get something like

boot devices not detected, connect boot devices and restart

I dont have an OS yet so im wondering if that will affect it

BTW this is a computer built by my i just got the hard drive today, just unsure what i should do, power cable and data cable is connected properly it is an SATA hard driveHard disk not detected on boot?
Go into BIOS, hold down DEL, F1 or F2 on boot and see if BIOS detects a hard disk. if it does, then you are set. If not, then you most likely have a connection problem, either with the SATA hard disk or the connector to the motherboard. I have seen motherboards where the SATA connector just easily plops out of the connector when you accidentally hit it or brush it with your hand. It can be easy to do, so check your connectors.

Of course, you won't be able to boot into an operating system until you start to install an operating system, right? If you have XP, make sure you have the SATA drivers on a floppy diskette (hopefully, you have an A drive). The way to do this is to stick your motherboard CD into the drive, boot up into the CD (set BIOS to CD boot device first), and there should be a little program on the CD that will transfer your SATA drivers to your floppy).

Vista will detect SATA without the floppy, but you still need to install the drivers fromthe motherboard once you get Vista installed.Hard disk not detected on boot?
1 insert the disk %26gt; bios settings %26gt; set dvd/cd as first boot....if no harddrive is found goto integrated peripherals sata mode config and make sure their all set to IDE not sata or else the cd-rom drive not workHard disk not detected on boot?
Have you gone into the BIOS to accept the HD settings?

I really recommend you put your OS on and can use the hardware utilities.
