Never touch Norton again. Norton is rubbish. It is the worst anti-virus product currently on the market. At one time it used to be good - before Symantec took over. Norton acts more like a virus and entrenches itself deep into your system. The software will do more harm to your PC than good and when you to to remove it, it leaves behind over 375 traces in your registry files/folders and subsystem. You have to download their removal tool just to get it off of your system. You are much better off with a free anti-virus product.

NOD32 and Kaspersky are the best anti-virus applications and much better than the best sellers Norton and McAfee (recent tests at av-comparatives.org). If you want a free anti-virus, AVG, Avast! or AntiVir all are better than Norton (install only 1).I was downloading a free trial of norton anti virus and somehow i lost every thing on my computer?
well i'm with samuel on norton and NOD32. as for getting you stuff back restore won't do it that is just your settings but try putting you windows disk in and booting from it. when you get to the partition selection for installing you will be given the option to repair windows. give that a shot and hopefully it will fix it, also NOD32 has a free 30 day trial www.eset.comI was downloading a free trial of norton anti virus and somehow i lost every thing on my computer?
Press F8 repeatedly as you boot up (on mine, it's F11), try both.

You should get to a boot screen where you can choose how to boot up. Choose Boot to a command prompt. At the prompt, type

C:\Windows\System32\Restore\rstrui.exe

This is the manual way of invoking the restore routine.

Good luck.
