My computer is continuously crashing, whats wrong with it?

I bought a brand new Gateway Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with a AMD Phenom 11 X3 N830 processor. (I got all this information off the box so don't expect me to know what it means!) I bought this computer a little over a year ago and never had any trouble with it until about the ending of January.

At first, a screen would pop up saying my computer needed to restart. No big deal? I figured it just had an update and had to restart to put that in drive. The next day a blue box popped up saying 'Your computer is shutting down in 15...14...13... to prevent further damage.' There was a lot of other numbers I never got to read, when I turned it back on it came to an all black screen with the options "Safe Mode" and the other kinds which are like "Safe Mode and Command Mode" I'm not quite sure. Then it had "Start Windows Normally" and at the top of the screen it said "To allow further damage to your machine, use Safe Mode." or something similar. I ignored this and clicked Start Windows Normally.

It did fine for a couple days then started crashing more frequently, I'm on Safe Mode now and its okay but I can only do so much and would love to have my normal laptop back. I ended up deleting/unloading everything put on here recently, hoping that was the issue. Unfortunately, it wasn't.

I don't have the money to go spend $50 on a simple 15 minute phone call with the useless Gateway Help Lines or give $150 to a computer technician per hour. I just really want to know whats wrong with it so if it is serious, I still have a warranty. If I do have to say, just clean out the entire laptop and start over? How would I save my files? Sorry for so much detail, just really concerned.

I'm no computer whiz so if you do have any help or guidelines on how to fix this issue that I'm so worried about, I do not want a broken $900 computer. Please put it in simple terms or to the point where its not "Click the GXQ7777 File" Haha, cause I won't know what the hell your talking about!

Thank you so much, Shelby. My computer is continuously crashing, whats wrong with it?
Hi,

When pc/laptops crash like that, the best, easiest and fastest way to fix it is to format.
I would suggest you to save your files on a usb flash drive if you have, or create a partition.
Start - right click on My Computer - Manage - Storage - Disk Management

You should see your disk, and few partitions (in blue or green usually)
One probably C:, containing Windows and files
Another one for Windows system boot files
And maybe 1-2 partition by Gateway.

If you have those Gateway partition, you probably have a software to recover your laptop.

If you don't have it, create a new partition. If the whole disk is used, right click on the partition and shrink it, depending on how many gigs you need. In that partition, put the files you want to save (it might takes long time if you have a lot !)

After that, download Windows Home Premium x64 bits somewhere, and burn it on a cd.
You will have to reinstall Windows. When you have to select on what disk and partiton you want to install Windows.. Do not chose to erase everything and use the whole disk !!

You can delete everything but the partiton you created !
If you delete it, you will loose everything you saved before...

It might looks hard, but if you have question, don't hesitate to contact me or edit your messageMy computer is continuously crashing, whats wrong with it?
It worked fine until one day. Try to do a system restore to a time before the trouble began. To system restore;

go to Start

go to Programs

go to Accessories

go to System tools

go to System Restore

follow the prompts to restore your computer to an earlier date than when you started having problems.

It might be a good idea to do all this in "Safe Mode".

To choose Safe Mode, as you boot up the computer, press "f8" until the computer boots into safe mode and choose that function instead of "Start Windows Normally"

Restore will take a few minutes. When it's finished restoring, run your anti virus , just for the good of it and reboot the computer to normal and it hopefully won't do more of that nonsense. That's what the tech might charge you $50 for. If you still have the same problem, another answer might come that better than mine, or you can head for the shop. If you were in the San Francisco bay area I'd send you to ATY Computer in Oakland Chinatown. The guy who runs that place is a wiz and prices his work more reasonably than any other shop I know. Last time he worked on my computer for 20 minutes and didn't even charge me because he discovered the machine was not worth fixing its many defects. Maybe you could phone Him, Alex, and ask for advice. The man just lives to help people.

i would put everything i want to save on flash drives cd's dvd's then i would start the pc and keep tapping F11 it will open Gateway Recovery Management just go from there Restore System to Factory Default. Then you'd get some prompts "are you sure" etc and you'd click Yes or OK.
When a computer crashes, the easiest, most common way to restore it is to do a manual reboot. When you turn it back on again, if no further problems appear to happen, there is usually a problem with your registry files. These files control the system and ensure everything runs correctly. Therefore if there is an error, it is important to fix it quickly. The best, most sensible way to do this is to use a good registry cleaner http://pcregistrycleanerword.com software to repair them and run it on a regular basis to make sure the files are repaired. If this normal reboot is not successful, safe mode reboot is the best option. This also allows you to repair any damaged registry files .Try to remember that prevention is better than the cure. your system, as this can be used to repair registry files regularly, and prevent crashes.
